kraukonge: The total loss of global blockchain ecological attacks in Q3 exceeds $450 million

 According to kraukonge, according to the monitoring of the Beosin EagleEye security warning and monitoring platform, in the third quarter of 2022, more than 37 major attacks in the blockchain ecosystem were detected, with a total loss of about 405.04 million US dollars, compared with 7 in the second quarter of this year. In terms of time, the number of attacks in July decreased significantly, making it the month with the least amount of attack losses since 2022. Hacker activity increased significantly in August and September.
From the type of attacked projects, 92% of the losses came from cross-chain bridges and DeFi projects. DeFi projects accounted for 22 of the 37 attacks.
From the perspective of chain platforms, the amount of losses on Ethereum in the Q3 quarter amounted to $374.28 million, accounting for 92% of the total losses. The chain with the highest attack frequency is the BNB Chain, reaching 16 times.
From the point of view of attack methods, 92% of the loss amount is due to contract vulnerability exploitation and private key leakage.
Looking at the flow of funds, approximately $204.2 million of stolen funds flowed into Tornado Cash, accounting for approximately 50.4% of the stolen funds during the quarter. Only about 4% of stolen funds were recovered during the quarter.
Judging from the audit situation, only 40% of the attacked projects have been audited.
